I am on furlough this week (better known as "the newspaper is struggling and everyone has been asked to take a week without pay"). For our family this is not too much of strain. Maybe we cut out a dinner or something like that, but for some it is very hard. It is sad to see the newspapers struggling like they are, and more than likely they will be gone in the next few years. I started my career in this industry and for the most part is has been a great one. I have learned so many things like how to deal with the harsh world of negotiations. It has been even more stressful as each person leaves and creates more workload for the remaining employees. Of course, I am also getting beat up left and right from customers wanting a better rate due to the fact it's a dying industry. So, with all of this being said, I do have to say I am loving the week off.
Monday morning Ella and I met a few of my stay-at-home mom friends at the park and Ella had a blast. She played on the playground forever and then we fed the ducks. These ducks were very friendly and came right up to us. Ella knew it was a duck and was quacking. It was so fun to watch her. We came back for a nap and then went off to Dairy Queen for ice cream. After we got back, we spent the rest of the day reading books and playing outside.
I know that each day would not be as fun as this week because I never have the opportunity to stay home with her, but I do miss her so much each day. I know working is what is best for our family and for me for now. My career has helped to define who I am and I am proud of my accomplishments, but I think sometimes I just want to be a mommy for a little while.
